Teaching on-line from Maleny, AustraliaHi, my name is Janice Amos and I am your facilitator for your online course. As a young student, I always wanted to know why something happened and as I got older that curiosity continued to flourish. History is, to me, the ultimate “Ah,Ha” experience. History is ever evolving and there is always another part to the story. History is my hobby as well as my vocation. Fortunately, my family are good sports as I drag them to historical sights around the country and for that matter across Europe! Just ask my husband about Lowell, Massachusetts-birth place of the American Industrial Revolution, or my daughter about the summer palace of the Hapsburgs in Vienna, or my son about the Russian exhibits at the museums, they get to see them all! One of the last places we visited was Queenlands, Australia. If you want to see Maleny, Australia just click here.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and even went to the same high school as my husband. I did not go to college after high school; I stayed at home with my children for several years. Then suddenly, I wanted to go back to school so I started college as an adult with two children, two part-time jobs and a full-time load of courses. My original major was psychology with a minor in history. I planned to become a child psychologist. As I neared closer to graduation, I found that I had taken so many history courses for fun that I had enough classes for a second major in history. So I graduated with a double major in Family Psychology and European History. I had never considered teaching; however, when I graduated I had already enrolled in graduate school and was taking more history courses. My specialty was the Nazi Era in Germany. I supplemented those classes with a course in secondary education thinking I would enjoy teaching at the high school level. I received my MA, in 1991 in European history from Northeastern Illinois University, (formally the Chicago Teachers College).

Now I also get to take my students to historical places from time to time when I teach f2f classes.
When we moved to Jacksonville, Florida I applied to teach at FCCJ in the Open Campus Military Program and have been teaching at the college level ever since! I have loved every minute I have worked in Jacksonville. Additionally, I have been working with the Navy College Partners Program and now work for the Open Campus Distance Learning Department. I am proud to be associated with such a fine group of people. As students, you can be assured that this online program will provide you with quality instructors and a team of dedicated people working to make your courses as interesting and as informative as possible. Attending college today can be quite challenging and together I feel that we can have a great learning experience ahead of us in this online course.
In my spare time, I design web sites and work on marketing materials for our company The Daedalus Group, Inc., which is a management advisory company. I also enjoy needlework of various types and belong to a few service organizations. I enjoy giving back as much as I can to help others. I enjoy spending time with my husband and the rest of our family, as well as friends.
Now I have the opportunity of learning new facts from my students-what could be better than that? Thanks for taking the online course. I will do all I can to assist you in your endeavors and make this course a positive experience. I can hardly control my excitement as we embark on this great learning voyage. So let’s begin.
